ATP tour 500 – EUR 2.540 million – 19 to 27 October 2024
Cut-off at 44!
Quality can be measured, and quality counts. There has rarely been a higher-calibre field in its 34 years on the ATP Tour than at this year’s Swiss Indoors Basel. As of the entry-list deadline, all the players who qualified for the main tournament that is the highlight of the Swiss tennis calendar are among the top 44 players in the global ATP rankings. The field is a veritable who’s who of illustrious names. ‘With this field and our new investments in infrastructure, we are consolidating our position as the third-largest indoor tournament in the world on the ATP Tour,’ says tournament president Roger Brennwald.
Refreshing new
faces
Swiss Indoors will play host to a number of new faces. At least seven major players will play in Basel for the first time, including Madrid winner Andrey Rublev (ATP 6), young American star Ben Shelton (ATP 16), rising French star and newly crowned winner of Tokyo Arthur Fils (ATP 21), Alejandro Tabilo (Chile, ATP 23), Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina, ATP 31), Jiri Lehecka (Czechia, ATP 34) and Matteo Arnaldi (Italy, ATP 36).
An impressive
field of talent
The newcomers will face off against established stars such as Hubert Hurkacz (Poland, ATP 7), Casper Ruud (Norway, ATP 9), Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece, ATP 12), Holger Rune (Denmark, ATP 14) and Ugo Humbert (France, ATP 15). They are all part of the tight circle of favourites and will challenge Félix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, ATP 22), the winner in 2022 and 2023, as he seeks to defend the title. The second former winner is Marin Cilic (Croatia, ATP 21 with protected ranking), the 2016 Swiss Indoors winner and 2014 US Open winner.
Wawrinka and the Swiss
hopes
Thanks to a wildcard, three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka will play in Basel for the 17th time in his great career. It could be the last big tip of the hat for the 39-year-old Vaud native with the fabulous backhand. Dominic Stricker will also be in the main draw with a wildcard, hoping to regain top form after a lengthy injury break. It can be expected that additional up-and-coming Swiss talents, whose names will be announced at a later date, will qualify from the strong qualifying field (all players in the top 100) thanks to further wildcards.
New foyer experience
As the country’s leading tournament, Swiss Indoors has long been regarded as a social event, attracting some 60,000 visitors. The tournament places a strong focus on comfort and services for spectators. Excitement on Center Court and relaxation in the foyer are the order of the day. Culinary delights and digital infotainment on the arena concourse will set new standards for top Swiss events.
