Arthur Fils: the next Yannick Noah?
The highlight of the Swiss tennis calendar is living up to its reputation as a fitting stage for the court stars of tomorrow. The new gem among the French players is super talent Arthur Fils (ATP 24). This star athlete is only 20 years old and is gaining on the world’s best every week. He recently beat Alexander Zverev to win the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg and he will now be competing at Swiss Indoors for the first time, consolidating the unbroken wave of the next generation. France’s creative tennis reporters are already comparing him to Yannick Noah. The 185-centimetre-tall Fils is already the second-best Frenchman in the rankings – one of eleven tricolore representatives in the men’s top hundred! Now in his fourth professional season, he is coached by fellow Frenchman Sébastien Grosjean and former French Open winner Sergi Bruguera.
Basel insider tip Rublev creates magic
Basel’s 2024 tournament promises to be sizzling. At present the entry list is headed by Andrey Rublev (ATP 6). Like Arthur Fils, he is competing for the first time at St. Jakob and is an expert at providing major upsets. He emerged as the winner of the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid after defeating Carlos Alcaraz on clay. Then in Canada he bested world number 1 Jannik Sinner on the hard courts of Montreal’s ATP 1000 tournament, and was only toppled in the final.
High-ranking field guaranteed
After the latest names to commit to the tournament, spectators can expect an outstanding range of matches when current champions Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz and Stan Wawrinka are challenged by Ben Shelton, Holger Rune and Arthur Fils, the undisputed young stars seen by numerous experts as future top ten players.
Tickets can be ordered online via the Swiss Indoors website or the Ticketcorner website.
