ATP tour 500 – EUR 2.540 million – 19 to 27 October 2024
Swiss Indoors Basel got its tournament week off to a superb start with the traditional Super Monday. This year, spectators were treated not only to first-class tennis, but also to some spectacular music. The Bernese-dialect rocker Gölä captivated the crowd in St. Jakobshalle, thrilling the audience with a selection of his greatest hits. The energetic show created a fantastic atmosphere, setting the perfect tone for a week of world-class tennis.
Arthur Fils (ATP 20) ensured there was plenty of excitement on the court even before the ceremony. The 20-year-old Frenchman ultimately beat German Daniel Altmaier (ATP 82) in a hard-fought match. Fils held his nerve in the tiebreak of the first set and finally won 7–6, 6–3, securing his place in the next round with his aggressive playing style and impressive serve.
After the thrilling opening ceremony, top seed Andrey Rublev (ATP 7) took the spotlight. The favourite didn’t give Portugal’s Nuno Borges (ATP 33) a chance as he dominated the match to win 6–3, 6–2. After showing off his strong backhand and winning an impressive 96% of points on his first serve, Rublev left no doubt about his ambition to fight for the title in Basel.
With such strong performances and the fantastic opening ceremony, Super Monday has set the bar high for the rest of the tournament. Spectators can look forward to a week full of peak athletic performance.
