Two-time defending champion Félix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 19) is still unbeaten in Basel! Since making his Centre Court debut on 26 October 2022, the Canadian has not lost a single match and today celebrated his impressive 11th consecutive victory at Swiss Indoors Basel. In his first-round match, Auger-Aliassime defeated the in-form Argentine Sebastián Báez (ATP 26) in straight sets, 7–5, 6–1. The Canadian dominated the match with his outstanding serves, sending a very clear message that he is ready to defend his title.
Equally spectacular was the opening match of Swiss home favourite Stan Wawrinka (ATP 169), who took St. Jakobshalle by storm. In a thrilling three-set encounter, the three-time Grand Slam champion beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (ATP 57) 6–3, 6–7, 7–5. The crowd enthusiastically celebrated every single point, creating an electrifying atmosphere on Centre Court.
The excitement is now mounting for the upcoming round of 16 matches featuring the local favourites. Stan Wawrinka will face a tough opponent in American Ben Shelton (ATP 23), who showed fine form in his first-round match. Meanwhile, there will be yet another compelling clash between two next-gen stars: Dominic Stricker (ATP 258) will take on the number four seed, Denmark’s Holger Rune (ATP 14). These games are sure to provide world-class tennis, and there is plenty of anticipation building among Swiss tennis fans.
