Jérôme Kym wins the Swiss showdown and secures a place in the main draw

ATP tour 500 – EUR 2.540 million – 19 to 27 October 2024

The second qualifying round at Swiss Indoors Basel offered spectators an exciting duel of Swiss next-gen stars featuring 17-year-old Henry Bernet (ATP 940) and Jérôme Kym (ATP 141). In an intense match, the 21-year-old Kym ultimately sailed to a straight-sets win with a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline. With 12 aces and a strong first-serve percentage, Kym delivered an impressive performance that catapulted him into the tournament’s main draw.

In addition to Kym, three other players qualified for the main draw. The top-seeded Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 68) put on an impressive show of efficiency and was the first to advance. Australia’s James Duckworth (ATP 63) then followed in two tight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. The final place for next week was snared by German Daniel Altmaier (ATP 84).

We now look forward to the main tournament, which will kick off with the perennial ‘Super Monday’ festivities. This year, spectators at St. Jakobshalle can look forward to exciting encounters and musical fireworks by Swiss dialect rocker Gölä.
