A musical spectacle to kick things off

Over the past half a century, Swiss Indoors Basel has been the setting for many thrilling moments that have gone down in history. Now the highlight of Swiss tennis will play host to an entirely different set of strings. This year’s opening ceremony will feature a Swiss music star for the first time as part of the Super Monday festivities (21 October, 6:00 pm). Under the bright lights of the St. Jakobshalle, Bernese-dialect rocker Gölä will conquer Center Court and the hearts of the audience with a selection of his greatest hits. The 56-year-old rock star will be joined by the Christoph Walter Orchestra, which has also accompanied the music of global stars on Super Monday in previous years.

Gölä, the man of the people

Before the world-class tennis players serve for game, set and match, the hometown legend will set the tone with the unmistakable sound of Bernese German. Gölä is a leading light in the world of traditional crafts and customs. He sees himself as a working man who has been delivering clean, honest work on stage for 25 years, including to 46,000 devoted fans in Zurich’s Letzigrund stadium. This man of the people writes songs and ballads full of feeling and common sense. A nonconformist, Gölä sometimes swims against the tide and is considered a down-to-earth Che Guevara figure who fans can relate to. Gölä is an artist who understands that the world loves heroes with their feet firmly on the ground.

World-class music and tennis united

Gölä adds his name to the proud tradition of world stars of all genres who have performed at St. Jakob, including Montserrat Caballé, Udo Jürgens and Amy Macdonald. After the rousing performance of Gölä, the entertainment will be provided by the tennis stars themselves.
