Super Monday with Latinostar Alvaro Soler and the next generation’s shooting stars
ATP Tour 500 – EUR 2.276 million – 22 to 30 October 2022
Super Monday is doing full justice to its reputation
Passion is the shared language of tennis and music, and this duo has a proud tradition at the Swiss Indoors Super Monday. Spanish-German pop singer and songwriter Alvaro Soler is set to conquer the hearts of his fans in St. Jakob on 24 October. The 31-year-old Latinostar already has some chart-topping hits under his belt and, with four million records sold, is one of the best-selling artists in Europe. This year’s Opening Ceremony starts at 5:30 pm and will focus on this star musician, accompanied by the Christoph Walter Orchestra.
Winds of change on the opening day
The new generation of tennis players will ensure the winds of change are blowing on the opening day. Alongside Spain’s shooting star Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 6), Canadian tennis’s answer to Gretzky, Félix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 9), is also expected to be among the top players at the highlight of the Swiss tennis calendar. The Roland Garros Junior Champion from 2020, Dominic Stricker (ATP 187), is an excellent addition to this line-up. The left-handed player from Bern has already been promised the first of a total of three wild cards by tournament president Roger Brennwald at this early stage. Dominic Stricker is one of the best-regarded blue chips in the pool of up-and-coming Swiss tennis players.
A stark contrast: young stars vs. Federer the doyen
Wunderkind Carlos Alcaraz wowed the tennis world with four titles in one season including victories over the world’s best players. This year, the 21-year-old shot-maker Félix Auger-Aliassime won the first title of his career in Rotterdam, and made the semifinals of the US Open last year. He is coached by none other than Toni Nadal.
Auger-Aliassime and the two 19-year-olds, Alcaraz and Stricker, stand in stark contrast to ten-time tournament champion Roger Federer. The player of the century, he’s starting his comeback on the ATP tour with a protected ranking (ATP 9), albeit without a guaranteed seeding.
