A duel of generations in the final

26. Okt 2019

It will be the first meeting between 38-year-old Roger Federer (ATP 3) and 20-year-old Alex de Minaur (ATP 28). And what better place than the final of the 50th Swiss Indoors in Basel?

Thanks to a wildcard, the young Aussie Alex de Minaur (ATP 28) went straight into the main draw at the Swiss Indoors. And he made the most of it: along the way, he beat Taylor Fritz (ATP 31) 6-3, 6-3 in a tidy 76 minutes, knocking out the player who had defeated second-seeded Alexander Zverev (ATP 6) in the first round. In the semifinals, de Minaur was impressive against the American Reilly Opelka (ATP 37), earning a berth in the finals in his first appearance in Basel.

His opponent will be 9-time tournament champion Roger Federer (ATP 3). After Stan Wawrinka was forced to pull out of his match against Roger Federer with back problems, Federer was fresh from two days off as he played against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals on Center Court. Federer defeated the 21-year-old Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in a commanding straight-sets win (6-4, 6-4).

The final will be the first meeting between Federer and de Minaur. A worthy match for the title of the 50th Swiss Indoors in Basel.
